New Years Goal Setting (aka: Resolutions!)

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday... mine is still going on as we are having Christmas with my Dad's family tomorrow.  It was great to have a few weeks off and I feel refreshed and ready to take on 2011!

I wanted to share my New Year's resolutions with all of you, even though some are personal.  I am definitely a goal-setter.  I like to write down goals, post them somewhere I can see because what's more important than setting goals is checking in on your goals.  If you set them and then forget.. there is no progress or reminders.  Its important to check in and remind yourself what you want, whether its daily, weekly or monthly.

1.  Eat healthier
2.  Grow my business / find a building
3.  Continue blogging
4.  Attend a dance conference
5.  Plan a wedding

1.  Eat healthier - I actually started this one after Thanksgiving.  I have a serious love affair with carbs.  I think during college I survived mainly off of pasta and cereal and potatoes.  Here is a picture of me proposing to mashed potatoes.

I told you.  Its a serious problem.  So my plan is to eat many more veggies/fruit and to "work" for my carbs.  If I want carbs, I have to workout.  I was doing great in the beginning of December until the cookies/cakes/brownies/mashed potatoes/delicious meals started happening.  But starting this week - back to the veggies & fruits!  Wish me luck.

2.  Grow my business / find a building - This is also an ongoing goal.  I have been searching for a building for my studio for around 3 years since we currently lease both of our locations and every rent check feels like I'm throwing money away.  I have stalked real estate listings and actually visited a few places, but when you buy something this big, you want it to be perfect.  I have hopes for 2011 and lots of good buildings.  Think happy thoughts :)

3.  Continue blogging - Since starting this blog in July, I have "met" so many great people in the dance world and love contributing in any way I can to the dance world.

4.  Attend a dance conference - I haven't been to a summer dance conference in a few years.  I'm not sure if this year I'd like to go to a dance/teaching one or a business/teaching one, but either way I am going somewhere!  I've had my heart set on getting to the Tap City NYC Festival by ATDF for a long time - maybe this is the year?

5.  Plan a wedding - And oh yeah, I will also planning my own wedding this year (along with some other dance bloggers...  congratulations Maria!).  Is it odd that I feel least prepared for this resolution?

Aside from checking in, the other important part step in goal-setting is figuring out a plan.  A plan is like a bunch of mini-goals that help you get towards the big end goal.  Without a plan, a goal may seem utterly daunting, but if you can measure small steps towards it, you will see you are making progress.

Good luck to everyone who has set high expectations for their 2011 - I am excited to begin!

Happy New Year!
